Dr. Richard Petersen

Dr. Richard Petersen was born in Lancaster and attended Joshua Elementary, Piute Intermediate, and Antelope Valley High School, where he graduated in 1996. He began his studies at Antelope Valley College and transferred to the University of California at Berkeley, where he majored in Molecular & Cellular Biology, with an emphasis in Neurobiology, graduating in 2001.
Following his graduation, he returned to Lancaster to work as an optometric technician at AVOC before beginning the four year graduate program at UC Berkeley's School of Optometry. After completing his Doctor of Optometry in 2006, Dr. Petersen rejoined AVOC as an optometrist.
In his free-time, Dr. Petersen enjoys cooking, sports, and learning guitar.

Dr. Tara Shields


Dr. Tara Shields was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, where she received her degree in Microbiology at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. She continued her education at the Southern California College of Optometry where she received her Doctorate. Dr. Shields was trained in comprehensive vision exams, ocular disease, pediatrics, contact lenses, co-management of laser refractive surgery, vision therapy, and low vision. Dr. Shields is certified in diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceutical privileges, giving her the ability to diagnose and treat an array of ocular diseases. She specializes in pediatrics as well as working with all ages.


Dr. Shields moved to the Antelope Valley in 2007 with her husband and family. When Dr. Shields is not seeing patients, she spends her free time with her husband, four children, and fun spots that Southern California has to offer.  

Dr. Jeff Clark


Dr. Jeff Clark was raised in Lancaster and attended Sunnydale Elementary, Park View Intermediate, and Lancaster High School, where he graduated in 2000. He attended Loyola Marymount University and received his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2004.  

Following his graduation from LMU, Dr. Clark immediately began optometry school at the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton. After receiving his Doctorate of Optometry in 2008, he worked locally before joining AVOC. He is very excited to join our team! 

Dr. Clark lives in Santa Clarita with his wife, Lacey. He enjoys concerts and considers himself a serious car buff.  

Dr. Michael Holub

Dr. Michael Holub has been an associate of AVOC since 1992. He is known by the staff as lighthearted and dedicated, and by patients, as a kind, caring eye doctor.
Graduating from La Sierra College with a Bachelor's degree in Biology in 1973, he went on to the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) in Fullerton, CA where he earned a Bachelor's of Science in 1975 and Doctor of Optometry in 1977. As a student clinician he was awarded the William Feinbloom Award for Clinical Excellence in the field of Low Vision.
After working in private practice in Oxnard, part-time at the Center for the Partially Sighted in Santa Monica, as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor in low vision for SCCO, and the Hull Eye Center, Dr. Holub joined the staff of AVOC in 1992.
Dr. Holub lives in Lancaster with his wife of 30 years, Jeanie, who is enjoying her retirement from 35 years of teaching. His hobbies include gourmet cooking, digital photography, along with watching sports with his son, Andrew.
